hard to believe no ones on this page.
MARTIAL ARTIST WHO HAVE THE ABILITY TO PROTECT THEMSELVES HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT OTHERS.
this done mainly through education and awareness. we need to give something back to the communities we live in by helping one of the most vulnerable demongraphics in the nation. if you look at who really needs the training and education it would be women and children. what are we as martial artist doing to help these demographics? what benefit are you and your school to the community where you live?
    just asking questions.

There is a women's self defense list on http://www.egroups.com that is moderated by Todd Eller & Tiel Jackson (Silat practitioners, among other things). With a year of head start & 75 members, maybe that's where all the WSD people are...

I don't mean to take anything away from THIS list, but why re-invent the wheel? Doesn't look like people want to hang here much...

              Hi Harley
Thank you for the complement on the web site..
I have not finished it as you see but hopefully over the Christmas weekend I will be able to get some more of it done..

you asked me whom I train with? well my main trainer I started with in the FMA is also my business partner and training partner now and the relationship has changed some as I have grown.... He is Sr. VP Of F.A.T.E. org and the head instructor for us...

His name is Mr. Howard Bifson or what his students call him Mr. BIFF... but I have a number of teachers in the FMA right now and over the past few years.. as I tend to travel and train on the road much....right now I am on the road and have been so the past week training in so calif with BIFF... we will be here though the 6th of Jan getting fate org sorted and all the local agency’s in order at the same time we train and get the program sorted out for this area in a year's time....

I did not get your email though and I am not sure why...

                    Hi Harley

Thank you for your offer to help....... I will be contacting everyone soon actually..... The main help I will need unless “someone has a very deep pocket somewhere and wants to finance the first 6 months of the program till the government funding comes in” there is not much that the other orgs need to do besides receive a free membership into fate org data base, the main job that I will need help on soon is just to get everyone listed in the FATE org data base so that classes can be held and students can be networked out to the different training studios and healing organizations...

That’s one of the reasons the plan is there..... Its not only to help the victims but the organizations that want to be part of the deal and become involved as well, and bring students to the art of there choice...

Its amazing when you give this way how everyone gains in the end in all ways.......

Ok well I am off and out on the road again training across calif for another week….

                    "Johnaleen bows deeply to you"

                        Very interesting Mr. E, ;-)
The first place I came to on this forum and this site was to the WSD! And you know my dedication as a martial artist... yet my passion as well as an educator specifically in sexual assault prevention.

Thank you for your post. "asking the questions" to stir up the martial artists....
I agree with your post; I do not feel that our martial arts industry has addressed this to the maximum capacity it could.
Every kids program has mothers, every male student has some significant other or sister or mother.
As martial artists, there should not be one of the above I have mentioned that miss a personal protection program.

Do you think if we (martial artists) did a bigger part, we could make a dent in that ..every 2 min there is a sexual assault in America stat?

Any martial arts instructors needing an excellent womens personal protection program in their school, please contact me Heather denverama@aol.com
Please do not hesistate to not only miss this marketing aspect of your business but also contribute to a much needed fight that we are presently losing regarding sexual assualt.

Again, any martial arts school who has not implemented a program into their business and would like to networking info, or more info...please feel free to contact me, the specific program our academies teach is with 20 years experience and very progressive.

If you dont contact us, please contact someone~
                        Sincerely,
                        Heather denverama@aol.com

                          Hello all,
I just have a couple of questions. I was wondering why you think WSD should be taught separate from the regular martial arts classes?
Also, is there a special curriculum that you would teach women just becasue they're women looking to defend themselves?
And, are you only looking to teach women to defend themselves against sexual assault, and not the plethoric array of other unfortunates that may beset them one day; like mugging for instance?
I ask these questions because it is my experience, at least here, that women loathe the violent path of learning self-defense. Most women here would rather take Cardio-Kickboxing and delude themselves into thinking that they are learning to defend themselves, and getting in shape at the same time. My point is that I don't know if it is the lack of instruction, or the lack of interest on women's part that is the cause.
                          Peace.

                            Greets; Mr. PJS
What a great inquiry… I hope Harley. will respond to you as well. I will give this a go… yes.. WSD should be taught in a completely different program other than your existing martial arts program for many reasons. A few are: The mentality and content of a WSD program is VERY sensitive and are worlds apart from ANY martial arts curriculum. Considering there is a sexual assault every 2 minutes in this country.. It is a silent epidemic. The sensitivity of that must be addressed in your quality program. Rape crisis centers usually have educators on site that are masterful at this aspect of it.
The beauty of us being martial artists is that we can take a step further what they already do. We CAN empower with simple affective tools that at least give the option to fight. Most females fight in an attempted assault (given drugs and alcohol where not used and they are not mentally grappling with an “acquaintance” assault ~all very different elements) and it is our duty as martial artists to give them the tools they can apply and not have to practice day after day. A quality women’s personal protection program should be simple when it comes to the application of physical or natural weapons. As martial artists in general we may slip from the simple. This type of program must be simple and effective. Driving home many points that it’s a lifestyle, anyone can learn to apply the techniques and everyone should know the likelihood of a sexual assault happening to themselves or someone they love and what to do about it.
I chuckled at your cardio kickboxing deal. Because that is common. Again, it is our responsibility to educate and inform the public the truths. I tell the girls this: “The best thing that this program (cardio class) does for you in self defense is play the High card~which in my program is self confidence. .. And I say it helps for you to run run run!” lol.. I address the issue. Its not, “martial arts” its not, “cardio kickboxing” it is the development of a personal protection system.
Peering into this aspect has lead me down enriching roads that the “martial arts” only pointed to. You will learn to wear more hats than, martial arts instructor (even though it complements what you will do) and more than, “fitness instructor” ~but develop into educator & motivator as well.
With all that said I would like to make two things very clear. First: martial artists are as misdirected to believe they can properly educate and instruct an appropriate WSD program as students in cardio kick classes believe they are learning “self defense”. Secondly, (because I will not leave us with out direction) if you are considering seriously becoming a community pillar in WSD hook up with your local rape crisis center. I mean hook up, go volunteer ~ make time~invest. Invite those educators out and let them speak to you, to your people then consider taking it a step further after assimilating all that information on how you would teach to fight that information mentally and physically. Continue to network as you are outside the box I am available to you.
                            My best to you.
                            Heather denverama@aol.com

                              An AWESOME Book

"The Gift of Fear" the book by Galvin DeBecker is one of the best self defense books I have ever read!!! Amazing!! It is required reading for our college students who take our self defense class. There is so much great information in this book and you can get it for about $7.00. I think everyone should read this!
It was on the New York Times Best Sellers List for like a year. I think anyone (esp. those who teach self defense) would benefit from the read.
