    Frustration in sparring By Sandy - Tue, 10 Apr 2007 20:36:18 GMT

    =========

    Hi ladies,
    I've been having an issue lately and I hope that you guys can provide me with some advice. I've been sparring for approx 4-5 months now and while most of the time it is o.k, there is a certain time I feel so helpless and frustrated. I feel like this when I spar with one of the black belts in my class-He is big(250 pounds), strong(6'2) and obviously has more training than I do. He also likes to "charge" a bit during training and I find it hard to deal with sometimes. No matter how much I try to block he hits me in the face over and over again. I feel really frustrated and discouraged and kinda scared of him. (which I'm not proud to admit)

    Anyone else have this issue?

    Keep your hands up.

    When I spar guys that are a ton better than me, I set my own goals up... I know I'm not going to block everything so I'll focus on one skill and give myself my own little challenges such as "I'm going to block every single kick" or "I'm going to work on slipping" or "I'm going to get one point." Try that and see how it goes.

    Or it could be that he's going too hard. Talk to your coach.

      He's an ass and you can refuse to spar with him till you get better!

      Challenging someone is fine, charging a newbie is ridiculous! at 4-5 month you are still a greenie!

      Of course, keep your hands up and and stuff, but if it gets that frustrating, re-evaluate the set up. (and work the angles...a person taller than you you can't meet head on! gotta finesse it a little)

        lol

        First forget blocking it is more trouble thsan it worth every time you do a block you take your hand away from you face thus exposing you all the more learn to slip and work on evasive movment and using angles all this will come in time what ma are you studying, even in tma you can slip during sparring so do so. Also you should ask this guy what you are doing wrong make a friend of him ask for sparring advice unless he's a jerk he'll give you some pointers.
