Lisa's thread about the "Margo Story" got me thinking.

How many of you women own guns? Guys, how many women do you know that own guns? Do they carry them in their purse? Keep them in a drawer? Is this something I should consider? As a women who knows nothing about firearms other than BB guns and the one time I shot a Magnum .357 more than 20 years ago which just about knocked me on my ass, where do you even start?

Firearms are like MA, if not taught well and constantly practicing, they are dangerous to fall back on...

And not having the gun on you 24/7 is dangerous...

She is still on my case to get her a desert eagle 50 cal !.... This has been going on for 3 yrs now i keep telling her to buy it her self some things women just dont listen . She tried one out at the range years ago and some thing grabbed her about it .... Hmmmmmmmz was it the recoil or some thing i am not aware of ?

One of the strangest aspects of the gun control debate is how women - often identifying themselves as feminists - are so supportive of laws that render other women disarmed and helpless.

We are not sure if this is fear on the part of the women in question, or simply close-mindedness - perhaps a mixture of both.

The Posse believes that women especially should be supportive of the right to self defense. Indeed, in a sane world, "concealed carry" would be a "women's issue" of far greater consequence than abortion. (After all, one need not be sexually active or capable of procreation to be mugged - every woman can be attacked.)

Happily, increasing numbers of women understand this.

Now a slight digression. One of the more amusing canards of the gun control movement is that firearms are a substitute for sexual dysfunction. Presumably this is why so many men enjoy shooting.

Of course this was always a cheap and pathetic argument, but the Left has always resorted to personal attacks to cover up its logical deficiencies. We mention this because, far from men viewing guns as a male-only sport, they are genuinely excited about getting women involved.

The Posse will venture further that most gun-owning men find nothing more alluring than a woman with solid shooting skills. Indeed, that is why we post pictures of women with guns.

That is of course Sithkitten with a Ruger KP-89 in 9mm. We've discussed this fine piece of machinery before.

While the 9mm round is much-maligned, it is quite sufficient for self-defense needs. We never tire of pointing out that the most impotant characteristic in a self-defense firearm is that the user is comfortable with it. A .22 will beat a .500 Magnum every time if the .22 hits and the Magnum misses.

Back to our original topic, we have always felt that the ultimate expression of "a woman's right to choose" was whether they preferred a revolver or an automatic.

We doubt if any of our male readers will feel themselves threatened by Sithkitten.

Would-be criminals may well be, though, which is a good thing.

Well, more suited for Playboy or Penthouse...or Cosmo....go get a gun and have great relations with your guy...


I am not sure about the psychology of shooting a gun, but as you read through the SD threads here you will find that a lot of women participating in a class are hesitant and afraid to hurt even an aggressor. Bad enough when you are unarmed, but if you pull a gun, you better be prepared to shoot to kill! Or you deliver the weapon straight to the hands of your attacker... and he/she will not be as kind anymore - I know, bad pun!

The women who will make good use of a firearm will also be the type that can kick your ass without a weapon, with anything handy...


So we are left with the sex appeal of a gun toting woman - by all means, get a nice one!

I have known several women who owned a gun. They were more confident when carrying a firearm, but they would all tell you to get training in using one before you get the gun. There is nothing worse than an untrained gun owner. Even a non-carrier is to be preferred than a person who owns a gun and doesn't know how to effectively and safely use it. Start with a gun club and training and then after you've shot a few and educated yourself on the realities of gun ownership, only then should you decide whether to purchase one and get a carry permit.

An un-trained gun owner is far more dangerous than the "Perp". I personally rather work with out carrying but my clients require me too. To me one becomes more of a target than one that is un-armed.
My crew and my self are always training to keep our skills etc up to sractch and always roll paying in real situations.

Once you draw your sidearm there is no turning back period. If you draw you'd be prepared to pull the trigger because you just might have to.

ok...i am a female...I own 5 Firearms...
My Glock 22 .40cal...will be my servicce weapon(deputy sheriff)
my Steyr .40 is my backup
my S&W 9mm is my home weapon
my M4 .223 is for tactical (i will be on the Tac team eventually)
last but not least
My Benneli Tactical 12ga. For the house...and because all women should know how to use a shotgun at LEAST!!!!!

Keep in mind i have been trained with all of my firearms... and i do security/law enforcement work.

Be carefull. Make sure you get training. A gun is like a directional hand grenade. Carying it comes with a lot of responsability. Do not buy the gun unless you understand that responsability. It includes the reponssability of safe storage and safe cary. It includes the resposability to pull the triger when nessesary.

I am with those who say they wish they did not have to cary.
