    Now, I'm Anemic - grrrr By Lynne - Wed, 26 Sep 2007 16:44:28 GMT

    =========

    I'm on Depo-Provera to help control bleeding. In June, I got a shot of 250 mg. versus the usual 150 mg. I had bled for 5 weeks straight. In August, I received a shot of 50 mg. I guess they were trying to average things a bit.

    Saturday night, I lost at least 1-1/2 cups blood. So far, it's been about 2 cups this cycle.

    I was anemic in the recent past. It took about 9 months to get my iron levels up to normal.

    No, I haven't had blood tests recently to determine if I'm anemic again. It's easy to tell though. Just practicing forms at home had me huffing and puffing.

    I went to class last night and it was very hot in there - we all thought about 90 degrees. At first, I thought it was the heat but soon realized I was breathless. I couldn't do the second and third sets of pushups on my toes - I had to go on my knees. Then, we did running jump front kick drills and I thought I'd die. I made it through the sparring at the end of class but wasn't very energetic.

    Because of the fatigue, I couldn't go to sparring class after regular class and I'm really disappointed. We have our big competition October 6. I need the practice/instruction.

    The good news is that the bleeding has really slowed. It could go on for 5 more weeks - I just don't know. If so, I hope it's just spotting.

    My doctor's office has not called me back. I suspect that I'll go in for another Depo shot. I don't think there is anything they can do to stop the bleeding.

    I'm eating lots of red meat, spinach, apricots, raisins, and prunes. I'm craving these foods like mad. I'm also taking 50 mg. of iron a day - no more as iron is toxic. I also take Vitamin C tablets or drink a sugar-free drink mix that has 100% of the RDA for Vitamin C per serving to boost the iron uptake.

    I really don't want a hysterectomy. I'm trying to avoid that at all costs.

    Just a rant.
