    Yellow belt--afraid to advance to takedowns and throws By hemlock2010 - 02-03-2011 05:40 PM

    =========

    I started karate at age 45 for fitness and because I'd always had an interest in it and had finally gotten old enough not to be worried about what anyone else thinks. I love the technical parts, but I'm really anxious about anything that involves grabbing or being grabbed, and I really, really hate the idea of falling. I've lost 20 lbs since I started (six months ago), and hope to lose more, but at 205 lbs, I just feel as though I'm too heavy to want to land on the floor very often.

    So I guess my question is this. Am I just permanently stuck at yellow belt until I get thinner? And if I get thinner, is that really going to solve my problem?

    I'm motivated; I work on techniques at home six days a week; I do cardio and weightlifting, and work out on a heavy bag. I WANT this. I'm just afraid that I'm too heavy to do it.
