Careful about knives, aside from the "they could take it away from you" schpiel, they're harder to use well than some would think. Only use a knife if you're OK with the range it puts you in. And remember that if they pull one too 1)YOU have just upped the anti, and 2)You WILL be cut. Even if you win. And chances are that a street fighter is going to be better than you at fighting with a knife, unless you have a fair chunk of experiance.
One random point: A gun is more deadly than a knife because of range and damage when hit. However, a person with a knife is more dangerous than a person with a gun. This is because a person with a gun probably took is out to scare you, but a person with a knife probably took it out to cut you.
And that's what you'd be implying too, by pulling a blade.Comment

BTW taking out any weapon implies intent to use it, especially a firearm...point it in my direction and I dont know if you intend to shoot or not, so I will start cutting on you just in case. Weapons arent toys and its a responsibility to carry it and get the training for said weapon.

I don't take my guns out for show, I use them. That's a foolish misconception about gun owners. More to the point, I would shoot someone trying to attack me with a knife. A knife is deadly and capable of creating real damage. They are both equally dangerous but which ever you carry, remember it's not "Show and Tell." Either you commit to the weapon or you leave it at home.Comment

If I pull a knife...it's either as a threat that I'm willing to back up (as in more than one person, or a person with a weapon threatens me or a friend)...or I'm going to stick it in them as their coming in, or when they take their eyes off of me.
sorry. I would. I have pulled a knife on people for pulling weapons on me or a group of people trying to jump me...and if I needed to (luckily, everybody has backed off)...I'd do my BEST not to KILL them, and I'd send their families flowers from jail while trying to get myself off for self defense.
I'm not violent...I just value my life...and those of the people around me...and I'll do whatever needs to be done to look into my loved one's eyes...or carry on doing the things I like to do in my everyday life...like walk and breathe.

You make too many assumptions. Knives are EASY to use. Just look in the news papers... UNTRAINED attackers inflict all kinds of trauma with blades almost every week in my area. Could happen anywhere, anytime...More often or less depending on the neighborhood or city or country you live in...They are more common than shootings where I live.Originally posted by Little Apple
The BOLD PRINT I highlighted because you state this as some kind of fact which I would argue needs to be corrected. Among folks that have experienced violence first hand there is the saying "Shoot me twice but don't stab me" Why do you suppose anyone would think like that? You are more likely to survive being shot than stabbed. The INTENT of the person holding the weapon has much more to do with your survival than his skills...
If you assume the guy with the gun is only trying to scare you then you put yourself at his mercy... Not a smart thing to do. I would argue that compliance is the last thing you want to give your assailant. But there are exceptions to that rule too...Comment

Dont' assume you'll survive the gun shots if the "shoot me twice" happens in your head. There's a lot of people dead from a .22 than just about any other caliber.Comment

. I posted that because it sounded to me like you were saying, Stabbychick "I know you're used to your firearm, but try bringing a knife ." Heh, I can see from subsiquent posts that I misunderstood. I was just trying to say don't bring it unless you can use it. May I point out that you guys quoted a lot of what I said, and followed it with "duh." I guess I'm just used to newbie/gamer/untrained/whoevers going "I carry a knife!" No need for all the agression guys, I missunderstood the post and pointed out some flaws in what I thought I was hearing. You all did the same...if less politely.
The "Knife guy is worse the gun guy" is statistical. % wise, the number of people who wave a gun around and never shoot, maybe don't even have it loaded is higher (again, proportionally) than the number of people who take out a knife and don't use it. No offence intended, feel free to look it up and please tell me if I'm wrong. For pete's sake that doesn't mean don't respect guns.
