Just wanted people to know about a great group at Yahoo called:
Self_Defense_For_Women@yahoogroups.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is good to see that things are going well with the SD for Women group here. I have been in training with the PD so I have not had time to participate - and I do not have access to a computer. Anyways...
Here is a clip from the YAHOO chat listed above....from a woman on that chat... ..
That Rape Escape site is interesting. I like the attitude of the site... but it seems to me that it would be a very grappling oriented system. Not always a bad thing, but not always a good thing.
I reccomend you check out the following, I think they are the best options:
Mellissa Soalt, her system is probably the very best, fastest to learn, and most street effective un-armed defense I have found, and its done by a woman, for women, her site is:
She has a video out called Fierce and Female, its available through Amazon.com, I suggest you get it. Even guys like this stuff, but anyone, big small, short, tall, can do really well with it.
Go to www.paladinpress.com and search for Kelly McCann AKA Jim Grover, and look for his tapes and book. Particularly the following:
and
and
and
His system is much similar to Melissa Soalts, and again, its probably the best I've seen/used. Probably has its origins in WW-II Commando training, but ismodern, and very reliable, effective, easy to learn.
Kelly McCann also is one of the head instructors for Crucible Security, so check
out their site as well:
There's also a real wealth of information you can pick up online too, I recomend the following:
A real good, smart, guy... really knows his stuff, and has a
great site, with tons of info, and its all free. Read everything, but his article called Modern Metsebushi, presents the best take on how to REALISTICALLY use Mace or Pepper Spray, I've ever seen. The man speaks truth.
One of THE BEST online bulletin boards about self
defense, Don Rearic is one of the moderators, as well as several other really great people, many different types of members, male and female a like. They have an entire forum dedicated to Womens Self Defense.
The Close Combat Board:
an entire forum devoted to the style of defense practiced by Kelly McCann and Melissa Soalt, Combatives. Well worth checking out, and if you are in the New Jersey area, a man on that board, named Carl Cestari, is probably one of the very best
instructors of that style, that you will ever find. He has classes every sunday, $10 a head, so if you can make it, I suggest getting in touch with him.
Also check out:
if you want to learn more about the men
and methods that are pure WW-II Combatives/Commando training, which are the basis of, as I said, the best modern techniques I've found, as taught by M.nSoalt and K. McCann.
Good techniques are good techniques, so not much has
changed, the unarmed stuff is most excellent, and I recomend it.
Hope this helps... if nothing else the forums I pointed you too will help you to find the very best defensive trainer you can.
