  • The focus of wrestling training

I'm a senior at my high school and am on the varsity team as a 1st string, it's my third year on varsity. I've been doing this for a while now but it's always great to have other people's outlooks on training and working out for the sport, so my question to you is: How do you focus your training for wrestling?

You might wonder what in the world that means...well, for example, when I'm training, my main priority is to try and go all out while we are doing live wrestling. I really focus all I can. So I put actual wrestling as my first priority to build up conditioning.

Afterwards I focus on learning and the application of technique

Third I focus on cardio, usually sprints, ect. ( I stopped long distance running)

    And Fourth, Weight Lifting.

So 1. Live wrestling, 2. Technique, 3. Cardio, 4. Weights

Is this what I should do? I'm planning on making it to state this year so I've got to work out hard.

Another thing, you know how they say to do weights every other day, well I'm thinking on my off days where i'm not doing weights is when I should do my cardio, meaning my sprints and burpees (of course all of this after wrestling practice).

Thanks for reading and happy wrestling! Peace.

Sounds like you've got a good deal of experience already. That being the case, I'd put cardio (of all sorts) first. When two competitors are evenly matched, it is very often the one with more gas in the tank who will come out ahead. If you want to lift every other day that's up to you, but cardio should be an everyday thing.

And who better to know about being full of gas than you. Your full of it.
