Hi Li welcome!!! this is a very good site to discuss Martial Arts. I notice that you study Chinese Martial arts, what styles have you studied? Is there anything that you like or dislike about the styles?

        Hello Li,

Can you give us a translation for choy li fut? What does it mean exactly and how do you pronounce it?

        Thanks

tomyum, you ask a question about a style that I hav seen talked before somewhere in past dicuss on this site, i wonder why.

          for your informations,
Choy Li Fut is pronounced as it is spelled but fut sound more like foot. this style is a combination of many Chinese martial arts styles (including Southern and Northern styles), and includes the five animals, quite famous and well known i think - Tiger, Dragon, Crane, Leopard, Snake.

Choy Li Fut was developed in 1836 by Chan Heung, who learned martial arts from his uncle, a famous Shaolin Boxer. Chan Heung named this combination of styles after his two teachers, Choy Fok and Li Yau-San.

you ask about the meaning, well Fut means Buddha in Cantonese, and was added to the name of his new style as an acknowledgement of his uncle and Shaolin roots of the system.

choy li fut also practises many of the traditional chinese weapons.

How about you tomyum, you name yourself after hot spicy thai soup, is this because you see yourself as red hot chilli pepper fire breathing dragon??

Nope. The name is completely random. Actually, I am referred to as the skinny nerd first and secondly as the snot nosed kid (no difference there...lol). Yes, I am comfortable with that description as long as you are.

How long have Beijingers been speaking Cantonese?

How is your Choy li fut training?

The art is a rival to wingchun. What do you think of the two, differences, strengths/weaknesses?
