I've liked martial arts for a few years, I did a couple years of Kung Fu a while back, but it was mainly for show. I'm looking for a style, or group of styles I could actually use in life. My prefered type of martial arts is rapid attacks and blocks with your hands and legs (of course I'm more in it for the offensive part, but I like a style that has a good defense, because I'm finding myself in a lot of situation where I don't have justifiable means to strike back, so I just block, it gets the message across). A rapid style is nice, but as long as it still deliver powerful blows. And I only want to learn if it will be useful in life, I don't want to learn set motions of moves, fights are way too unpredictable for that.
Also, out of curiosity, are there any sets that utilize leaping? what I'm thinking is, leaping at your target (assuming your around 5+ feet away) and say, shooting your arm out at him as you do so, putting all the force of your leap behind your punch (I suppose it's just like a leaping kick, but it utilizes the leaping part in a wider range).
Also, any advice for training, just about anything is fine at this point.
Thank you.
while were at it, anyone know any good martial arts schools in Pennsylvania? particularly centre county?
