  • Introducing Myself

Hi, my name is Jason R. Moyer and I am 33. And if you wonder why I use the middle initial, well there is a ton of Jason Moyer's in the world. I know from having a problem with Discover card one time..Anyway!!!

Man, I hate writing bios, because I never think I can say enough. My first experience was in Kung Fu at the age of 15. I trained at that for about 2, maybe 3 years and then my sifu's moved away, but came back on weekends to still train some of us. That lasted for a little bit, but eventually faded away.

After Kung Fu I was left with a void in my life. I wanted to train but just couldn't find the right school. It was by sheer luck, and job-hunting that I found the art that would set the base for all my future MA training. While job hunting I saw a little sign, Koei Kan Karate Do and thought I would check it out. Well, the school just opened, and I was one of their first students. I was 19 when I enrolled and I was active at the school for about 7 years. In that time I made it to I-kyu (1st brown). I then decided to join the army and this put a halt in my training. However, I was supposed to test for my shodan when I came home from basic training, but I didn’t make the test. I thought that training class was just going to be that a regular class, but my sensei told me afterwards that they were going to test me before I went to active duty. So, I have been a brown belt forever and I still maintain contact with my instructors and I try to make it home to train on the weekends.

I recently started training in Krav Maga. It has been a great experience so far, but I found it a little difficult because I am used to traditional karate and my moves reflect that in my Krav Maga class. Krav Maga is very fun and one heck of a workout.

On a personal note: I am married and have 4 kids. My wife and I met online, go figure. We met about 3 years ago and chatted online for a year and then she moved to Virginia and at that time we got married. It has been an interesting ride and a bumpy one but definitely worth it. The wife doesn't share the same enthusiasm as I do for MA, but that is okay. The arts just aint' her thing.

Wow, when I thought I couldn't make this post long it turned out to be a good bit of information. I want to thank Ed for the invite to this forum and I hope I can contribute to the many post and learn from each and everyone on here.
