  • Moving Martial Arts

I'm going to be posted to Makati, Philippines in January. I currently train (TJF) Shorinji Kempo Jiu Jitsu - does anyone know of a similar jitsu style in Makati or have a suggestion as to what else to try?

I am deciding whether to do something related (such as aikido) or something entirely different to have another perspective.

    Any thoughts?

While in the Philippines, seek out filipino martial arts. Some styles to look for, Pekiti Tirsia, Dekiti Tirsia...there are hundereds of different styles, but go under the umbrella terms of escrima, kali, or arnis. Other arts (mostly emptyhand styles) go under umbrella terms of dumog (wrestling/grappling) sikaran/yaw yan (kicking arts), and panatucan boxing.

Any system should cover all ranges of fighting, from weapons, to grappling. Do it dude, you have a rare an unique opportunity, look up which styles are big in that area, and fo for it...you lucky bastard, you.

No kidding, take the opportunity to learn some FMA's. Escrima, Kali, Arnis, just like Garland said, you are very lucky to get a chance to go do something like that. Diversify, it will only make you better, don't the the chance pass by....
