  • My Introduction

Hi everyone. My name is Matt Toupalik and I just came across this forum several days ago.I first started training in Okinawin Karate with Master Jim Thompson when I was 14.Master Thompson sparked my interest in the arts with his intensity and his knowledge.I felt something was missing, so I began to search out other systems to see what appealed to me.Started boxing at 16 and loved it.From there it was kickboxing, tae kwon do, the Tracy system of kenpo, and finally jeet kune do, which was awesome.Unfortunately, the school had to close down several months after I started due to financial difficulties.Nothing else compared in my opinion, so I stopped training.I took up weight lifting for about the next seven years and just recently became interested in martial arts again.I've started training as a boxer again, and will look around town to see who is teaching what.I plan on using this site as a source of motivation and discussion.Good luck to all and train hard!

Thanks for the welcome, Scott!Just hit my first "real" workout back and it was gruelling.Too much drinking the past six months has really worn me down. Not sure if anyone is interested, but here was my first workout back:
Warmed up with 12 minutes of vigorous rope skipping
3 rounds of shadow boxing working on form with a moderate pace
Interval training on the heavy bag, drilling various two- and three-punch combinations for about ten minutes
Two rounds of jabbing out of an orthodox stance(I'm a converted southpaw)
3 sets of static contraction crunches alternated with 3 sets of static contraction reverse hypers for building up the core muscles
Finished up with a 10-minute cool down on the stationary bike at a slow pace

I was ready to puke after this, so it goes to show me how pathetic I've become.Looking forward to the road ahead however.
