  • Hi!

Hey everyone, I just wandered across this forum and it seemed interesting, so I joined up. One thing I'm looking for in particular is information on Caipoera. That crazy brazilian "Break Dance" "martial art". If anyone has any serious information (i.e not Thai Bri) I would be interested.
    Anyway More about me:
    What I've studied: Kendo
    ABP Karate
    Small Amounts of Hisng-I
    Rudimentary Pa-kua.
So, all in all That's me.

Its Capoera (no "i"), and it is only a little like break dancing in its simplistic early grades. I have a wealth of knowledge about it, and know where you can get information about clubs worldwide. But they are still quite rare.

I know the seven basic exercises that will allow you to adopt the acrobatic prinicples it adopts, and I have information on the little known tendon conditioning system they employ to keep injury free during their more gymnastic moves.

          Well, not yet anyway.

People say ' Spanky, you need to reign in on that mad attack British Bulldog Bri Thai'.

I have to explain to them that if you pet him he's a nice dog.

But if you throw rocks and sticks, and run through his junk yard with a pork chop around your neck....

          Well, what do you expect????

            Sorry,

Mr. Bri, I'm sorry, I'd only seen several of your posts and felt as though you weren't exactly the Nicest person, however that was quite judgemental of me. I sould have met you first. Please Forgive my indescretion.

Glad you liked it. From what I have seen Capoera is very acrobatic. It is yet another case of martial art training being "hidden" in dance form. But it may well be true that the dance overcame the art.

I don't like the idea of cart-wheeling in an attempt to kick a guy in the head. But bet it gives fantastic physical benefits. The BBC have a brief sequence of two guys performing it between TV shows at the moment. Looks cool, but I doubt its practicality.

On a side note, I saw some footage of break dancers recently. They are amazing. I reckon a good break dancer could make an incredible striker or grappler. Their strength, agility and fitness is amazing.

But I'm too fat to do it.

Caipoera isn't a martial art as such, it's a game where the objective is to touch your opponent in the head with your foot.

I've hardly done *any* of it, but basically you always do it to music, and have this set rhythm side to side step thing. Each person takes turns trying to hit the other on the head with their foot, while the other evades.

                    That's about all I know.

I have never studied Capoera: but from what I know and read (actually there was a movie abot it with One and only???? Don't quote me Ithink with marc ducascas (sp))

Anyway this was the first Brzilian MA brought over by slaves. They basically hid the MA in dance so it would go unnoticed by the slave masters....and this of course lead to its tradition.

I think it is a fun art to learn and like anything it is hard to find and equally hard to find good instruction. I definately think that it is small enough that lineage is everything so check the instructors background who did he/she learn from. I would check it out every MA can add something if you are open to its reality. Plus you will get a good workout

REgarding self defense...hmmmm I don't know I always felt that it was not strong but again I have not sparred with anyone, but I do know a lot of brazilians that studied in Brazil who recommend it. They have studied other arts also and still reccommed I have been thinking of starting when I get more time maybe in another year or so just to se what it is like.
