The BJJ says that 90% end to the ground so learn groundfighting
others say that going to the ground is dangerous, he may have some friends that are going to help him by kicking you, he may have a knife...
well both of them are right...!
if you worry about being attacked by thugs who are going to kill you...
well the best martial to protect you in a situation like this is...not going to places where you can be attacked by thugs!
if you like to go walking around in dark alleys or making the wise guy in bars you are looking for trouble...
my grandpa lived in Chicago for 30 years and he never was in trouble because he was smart enough to avoid them...
in a life threating situation no MA can save you 100%
the best thing is to be a 100 metres runner... just make a strike and then run like hell...
but there are fights that he wont try to kill you...
havent you ever seen high scool students fight?!
i dont think they really want to kill each other!
or fight against someone in crowded place...
in this case the fights do end in the ground...
havent you seen the fight Boztepe vs Cheung?!?!
the two Wing Chun masters and their fight had nothing to do with Wing Chun!
they just went to the ground...
so going to the ground is something you probably cant avoid and maybe its a good option...as long as you dont fight for your life...

Want to be my friend? Every fight I saw had two guys fighting and at least 5 of their friends hanging around watching. If it goes to the ground your screwed when someone jumps in. If your standing you can always run. So start sprinting. But if it does go to the ground and you have training then you could try to end it fast get up and then start running. Martial arts training is not for getting yourself ready for the simple everyday tasks in life. Its for the scenarios that you can't imagine or cannot predict and is not a everyday occurance. It gives you that edge that you need to handle that bar fight, gun battle, pitbull, or whatever. I mean if you knew exactly the challenges going your way then you could just train for those instances but you don't so you make yourself an overall fighter and you will be better off.
