i guess it is brief but it's about all i can say. It's just that when Wally Jay started his techniques were still imature. But with further R&D his techniqes were very similar to higher dan techniques in Aikido (without being and aikidoka himself)

what i mean is they are now formidable and not become to the laughingstock by holding up their own.

I wouldn't know about who their current exponent is (is Wally Jay still alive? he used to spar/compare notes with Prof.Vee and Bruce Lee). And I guess the Judo mat isn't the right place to test their effectivity since Atemi is not allowed in Judo tournaments niether is wristlocking and standup grappling.

    that's it simon cowell..er I mean Thi.

better as in better throw and takedowns not necessarily (in Judo conventions, since wrist locks and chokes are not allowed in Judo tournaments during the stand-up phase). But they have held up quite nicely.

Judokas were superior in thowing techniques because they specialized in off balancing when Kano removed many lethal techniques, purposefully making it into a sport.

Whereas SCJ was deprived of the opportunity to use their standing locks and stuff in Judo tournaments. SCJ is similarly grounded in pain for control like Aikido but uses tighter locks rather than the Large circle type movements of Aikido.

SCJ was geared for street fighting and most MMA tournament would not allow small joint manipulations.

I am not proposing SCJ as the ultimate art nor better than anything else. The point was simply (for the sake of my earliest point) that some people do not need to move on to another martial art to become effective. Some simply need to keep an open mind and make their art work for them. That's why I gave SCJ as an example.

This was simply to give little credence to the use of Karate (which again I'm not really a fan of but which i simply respect) that a Karateka with common sense and humility can admit where he lacks and think out of the box. Then he can move on to make even a McDojo art into something effective (though not without serious difficulties).
