  • I'm off to Iraq

Well guys it’s official, I am going to Iraq! I will be going for 6 months as a security contractor. I have been thinking moderately seriously about this over the past couple of years. The only available slots I keep coming into were 1 year assignments, but this has been unacceptable to me for family reasons. Finally a buddy of mine called me up and said there was a contractor that he is working for is offering 6 month assignments.

So after some thought, some prayers, and a whole lot of talking with the wife we decided that financially this would be a good move, and being gone 6 months certainly beats being gone 12 months.

I leave next month. I have a lot to do to get ready. I’ll miss some of you guys and the debates, especially the TMA debates. I hope you all can go on without me, I know it will be hard but I have faith that you can. If policy allows maybe I can drop a post now and again. I don’t know what their internet policy is yet but I am sure it’s strict and restrictive. If time allows I’ll be around here from time to time before I leave.

why would u go to iraq? why would u leave ur wife and family here to go to a war zone? thats like, the worst thing u could ever do. if you are that eager to live in a disaster zone why dont u just relocate to florida and live through some tight hurricanes. thats like me saying i want to go iraq for spring break or some shit dude.

u see all these people who get kidnapped in iraq then get beheaded and its like, wtf did u expect by going over there.

Be sure and enform your wife that if you are to get killed not to get to mad. And remember it was your own selfishness that got you there. Some things can't have a price put on them. If you are interested in helping in Irag join the military.

Bring a Camel-Bak, good skiing goggles (to keep the sand out of your eyes during sandstorms), and plenty of shit to do Those desert water bags are good too, help keep cool the bottled water you'll get. Good luck and watch your ass.

First and foremost I would like to thank all you guys for your support. I deeply appreciate it.

For those of you who cannot seem to grasp the reasons why I am going well I don’t need to state my reasons but suffice it to say I have a long history of doing dumb ass things and volunteering to be put in harms way. It’s not all about the money it has to do with service and if you have to ask the question why then you probably wouldn’t understand the reasons anyway.

Again thanks for all your kind words and support.
