  • Modern Japanese films (or rather, Post-modern)

I don't know how many of you guys follow Japanese cinema lately, but a whole bunch of stuff has been released in recent years that's cutting edge.
    9 Souls...great.
Takashi Miike films...great. (he did; Ichi the Killer, Dead or Alive, a whole bunch of other really bizarre films)
A snake of June, Tetsuo, and all of the other cyber-flesh films (forgot the director's name...really bizarre stuff.)
2LDK? good film a'la pulp fiction vs. single white female.
Of course anything directed by Takeshi Kitano...
    and anything starring Tadanobu Asano.

I recently watched Casshern, a very interesting film. awesome fight scenes, great story, and it carries a message.

Since we seem to have progressed from Japanese films to foreign films, anyone catch "Les Visateurs?" American film did a remake of it recently. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what we called it. It was a comedy about a knight and his squire who are teleported to a modern time. The French did a much better job of making the knight much more realistic and believable than the cartoonish knight the americans made. American film is too cliche' and too Disney"ish".

The late Juzo Itami's movies - Tampopo, A Taxing Woman, the Funeral.
Miyazaki's Animes - Castle of Cagliostro is my favourite
                          Shohei Imamura's Unagi (the Eel)

From Hong Kong, anything by Wong Kar Wai with Maggie Cheung.

American remakes... shudder. Taxi... Shall We Dance...

Don't take it too seriously. Besides occasionally whetting my pallet on the finer things in life, and occasionally attending classes and lectures, and some of the more pretentious events and life's little pleasures various institutions have to offer...I still find time to be a damn dirty bastard.
Well...I'm 19, so...not much time left. Seize the day, muthafuckas.
