What type of cheap whore do you take me for...Crovossier is relatively high-end compared to Mad Dog. That would be like me dangling my testicles over a vat of carniverous ear wigs for 50 bucks.

I need to maximize my utility and decrease my dis-utility. That's economics.....beotch which means more fun, less damage to me. (competitive fighting is to some extent...all good fun...even getting hit as hard as just about anyone I know can hit me, won't hurt me anymore than the Japanese test I just took, seriously, I've been kicked in the balls with clogs and heels and I'd take it over that...one of those ones where it just goes on and on...and you try to find a way to BS it, only to find that while your skimming it over again and again your neck feels like somebody hit you with a hammer, and your brain stops in place and starts to reconfigure itself in the shape of a peanut, just like you did when you hit those knife hits down in Cavo San Lucas with those sheisty looking chaps...)

Get me some 1985 Chateu De Quiem...that's a nice satourne (sp...desert wine) very expensive...500 a half bottle. (probably more now than when I had a chance to taste it.)
And 2 glasses of decent tasting port...and I'll fight anyone. (I may get hurt REAL bad...but it's the thought that counts, A...get to fight a hopefully good fighter...which will make me better ipso facto....and I'll get a TASTI, that's tast-eeeeeee, beverage to sip through a straw if need be.)

Well, it's important to remember that the Reeders lineage is only *one* lineage of Kuntao.

As I understand it, Reeders was a top notch practitioner and fighter.

Savelli - I'm not sure about him. I've heard a lot of negative about him but also some positive. I know a guy who trained a long time with him and this guy is good ... but since the guy was Spetnaz before he met Savelli, I'm not sure how much of his "good" is from Savelli and how much from his other training. Since I've never personally met Savelli, I don't really know.

I've seen video of one of Reeder's lineage instructors and I've worked with some other of Reeder's lineage practitioners. The video was very basic but well presented. The guys I worked with were where I'd expect someone to be with the time in they had ... i.e.: they had been training for a couple of years so had a pretty solid foundation.

The Kuntao I've had the most exposure to is Kuntao Silat de Thouars from Willem "Uncle Bill" de Thouars. It's very good stuff and Uncle Bill is phenomenal. All of his seniors are good, too, and there's a lot of skill in general within the "family."

As far as kuntao in general, I think Krys summed it up really well. Also, it should probably be noted, the word "kuntaw" is sometimes seen in the Philippines but it means the same as "kuntao" or "kun tao."

Kuntao usually refers to the hybrid chinese or (more rarely) pure chinese martial arts practiced in whole south east asia.

In the case of the Philippines:
large chinese communities used to live in the southern Philippines among filipino muslims. This allowed the muslim tribes to learn chinese martial arts, mixing them often with their own silat. After centuries of evolution this has given distinct martial arts...
But the situation is more complex as the word is also used for different local silat systems....

Outside South East Asia kuntao is usually made up: some peoples will mix up poor silat and kung fu or arnis and kung fu and claim they are teaching the real thing....
I came to this thread because there is a new school opening in my area that offers KunTao, and I was thinking about going down there and learning some new stuff. Love to learn as much as I can. Other than basic McDojo signals, What are some ways that I could differentiate true KunTao from the "made up", false advertised Kuntao.

Well, the first thing you probably want to find out is the instructor's lineage. If s/he is from a respectable lineage then there's a decent chance that you should be getting legitimate material. However, the person could, of course, lie about their lineage. So, my advice, once you find out what lineage they claim then get online ask around here about that lineage and whether that instructor is actually from that lineage. I don't know where you're located but the Kuntao community here in America is pretty small and I doubt it's very big in Europe so if you live in one of those places or the instructor claims a lineage from one of those places then chances are at least decent someone here will be able to offer some info about the lineage and maybe about that specific instructor. Of course, people here can lie, too, but if you look around here enough you'll probably be able to figure out who's reliable.
