Yep
That's the Asian way allright...
Its kind of a grey area. He's not beating those guys because he's angry; he's doing it so that they will become ruthless fighters when the time comes. At first, those guys are probably scared and a little shaky but after a few weeks, they won't flinch. When it comes time for them to fight, they'll handle the competition well.
Atleast he's beating everyone a little bit - a sign that he wants all of his fighters to be tough and that he dispells discipline equally. He's not showing any favoritism.

my fav part of this video is after he is done beating on his students, he decides to come after the camera man lol. u can see the camera mans camera shift away from the students as he is trying to get away from the teacher lol.
btw, i think this teachers actions are a bit excessive. i understand wanting to make your students tough and disciplined, but hitting a skinny asian kid over the head with a stick causing him to bleed is fucked up. there are better ways to encourage students.
btw didnt the students end up kicking this guy out of his own martial art for being such a dick?

When I was living in Tokyo, there were two MA clubs in my neighborhood that I was considering. One was BJJ, the other was Shoot. I'm glad I went with the BJJ!

...I don't see the rationale behind beating students like that. It's not training, it's just abuse. What is the goal of that? Smile as he hits you? Perhaps he wants a student to lash out at him?
If he wants to train fighters, then he should keep those with promise and kick the other fuckers out of his school. That should be enough to seperate the wheat from the chaff...no need to bully the kids.

It's an old-school way of doing things that does work. Its excessive.
