    Memoir of A Geisha

Its taken off of a book by the same title. Excellent book! The movie seems to skip details as usual (in the beginning) and get's kind of slow at times. However, there is alot of visual beauty in the landscaping and scenery. In addition, the actresses who play the main character and her rival are stunningly beautiful. If you dig asian women, you won't be able to take your eyes off this one.

I thought they did a great job adapting the book for the big screen. Of course you can't get the level of detail in a movie that you can in a book but I think the story survived pretty well. It was absolutely gorgeous to look at- and I'm not just talking about the women. I think it's appropriate that we bury Boston's nonsense with a thread about such a feminine movie.

      More

      Syriana

Was alot different than the book "See No Evil." Again, the first part of the book goes into detail about the main character's background and his training into the CIA. All of which are ignored in the film.

      King Kong

Stayed true to the original, but had way better special effects. Especially the seen involving Kong vs. the T-rex group. Very nice.

        Memoirs of a Geisha

Gong Li is my favourite Chinese actress. Zhang Zi Yi is another Chinese actress who is growing on me. Michelle Yeoh is a Malaysian-Chinese who I also like a lot.

The only problem is not a single one of them is Japanese! Some casting director should be clubbed over the head. There are plenty of talented and gorgeous Japanese actresses out there.

Gong Li and Zhang Zi Yi are great in Wong Kar Wai's 2046. Although it's probably a good idea to see In the Mood for Love first, since 2046 is its sequel. 2046 also has Faye Wong and very very briefly Maggie Cheung.

Yeah there's a little political heat behind the casting.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance...another dark and visceral drama from the director of Old Boy. Best line "I know you're a good man. I know that's why you'll understand that I have to kill you."

Saw II- a piece of rancid, torturous shit. With poor acting, see though plot, and horrible....HORRIBE dialogue. Flat characters that make me want to dive into a pit of syringes.

Wallace and Grommitt- yeah...what was fairly reliable kick ass stop motion claymation gains a better foothold within the mainstream. Overall pretty good story, very entertaining...especially for a children's movie.

Hostel- Mixed feelings. I liked the story, found it convincing...and the characterization went over and beyond what's come to be expected in horror movies...but felt that there was perhaps too much comic relief...albeit sadistic and dark...but that's what you can come to expect from those goofy bastards that brought you Cabin Fever and ...*shudder* Trailer Town*. <-

*I'd rather have somebody tie me to a chair and pull some Saw/Clockwork Orange shit with a thousand hours of Lilith Fair concert footage than see any 15 minute segment of that fucked up show.

Other films...ah...I dunno...outside of foreign films...this years been pretty scant on good films.

Oh...and avoid "when a stranger calls" it isn't a hundreth of the original, or "when a stranger calls back".
