I used to sit sazen and rise from the cross-legged lotus position to a standing ready stance. My legs would simply unfold beneath me and raise my body through space in one fluid motion. Now my legs strain futilely under the weight of the years. I gesture upwards and only manage a Frenchman-like shrug, like ol’ Dan’l Webster, the celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras County, when he got hisself all loaded up full o’ birdshot.
