In my Taekwondo class we do our warm up exercises ,then a lot of the time we stretch for a good half an hour. These stretches are prolonged stretches followed by some kicking and sparring. My question is should I be doing this after stretching in this way? Im no spring chicken I know, but i do suffer a fair ammount of pulls and strains.

I trained in MT before TKD and we done those type of stretches (passive stretching i think there called) only as a warm down and never had a problem.Only now with doing these stretches mid session am I getting injuries or it could be an age thing

 yes Iam 40

yes ,but is it right to throw kicks after stretching, say your hamstrings for a for a good 30seconds each stretch then, a throwing a high roundhouse or side kick almost immediately after. I mean these are like yoga stretches then launching into a high kick .I know its good to stretch after a session but my legs feel looser after doing leg raises running sparring etc, but tight after doing a passive strech.

I would think your instructors know what they are doing.Originally posted by samjang View Postyes ,but is it right to throw kicks after stretching, say your hamstrings for a for a good 30seconds each stretch then, a throwing a high roundhouse or side kick almost immediately after.
