I don't care who yar. Larry the Cable guy.
Poor Tom.
Try Craigslist yet? LOL
LMAO! Negative.
Does hooking up with a chick he JUST met in the restroom of a restaraunt count as a date 'cause a buddy of mine did that and he considers that a date LOL!
as a guy who still holds out hope that chicks like nice guys (they don't)..
Mike,
I know some gals that will argue tooth and nail, kicking and screeming that they DO like nice guys! And we know that when any man argues with a woman the women are always right...
As for the environs? I used to live in Colorado, but not on a ranch. I can't stand Texas, and I'd just as soon move to downtown Baghdad as anywhere in Texas. Texans, no offense. I just can't stand your state.
None taken. Which parts have you been to, though? Some areas of the state are prettier than others (or at least look less like a dog's ass).
I would never tell her to leave me alone! A real man can always find a good use for a good woman!

I just can't stand your state. Love your gun laws, though! I now live in Washington D.C. and I wear a suit to work, and I am every bit as comfortable in that as I am in BDUs and facepaint. The whiskey and cigars bit is right on -admirably so - but as for the rest of it, I pride myself on my ability to thrive in any environment; city, country, wilderness or otherwise.
As for everyone else, I'm not going to be as verbose, which I realize is out of character. I just find vagueness makes it easier to be right on stuff like this!
Garland:
Closet intellectual. Likes to be seen as the slacker-type wait staff underachiever, but has a real taste for intellectual pursuits.
Ghost:
I don't know if you're from England, but you truly remind me of several Aussies I know. My step-mother is Australian, and you share a lot of similarities. I love your approach to training and competition, and I truly hope we can sit down someday and have a beer together.
Michael Wright:
Not fair. I actually know him. I have awesome respect for Michael, and I think we've walked a lot of the same ground, covered a lot of the same life lessons.
DJColdFusion:
I know him too, but I can't help mentioning what a genuine, wonderful human being he is. He's a monster, too. As I recall, DJ is around 6'9" or so and every bit as big as a silverback - no exaggeration. He used to train with me in Colorado, and that was my honor, not his.
OldSchoolCO:
Also a friend, training partner, and student. One that has far surpassed any talent or ability I ever had and become MY instructor in a lot of areas. He's a bona fide badass and someone I would want at my side in any mess. In fact, we've been through more than our share and come out smelling like roses! One of maybe three people in my whole life who have ever proven I can trust him with my life and the lives of my family.
Tom Yum:
Another genuine, wonderful human. Tom has more intelligence in his little finger than I have in my whole brain - and I'm a goddamned genius. Tom also has an admirable sense of patriotism and he demonstrated that when he said he was going to go from a sucessful job into a combat military role, then did exactly that. Tom strikes me as a guy who still holds out hope that chicks like nice guys (they don't), but who's able to handle himself despite his agreeable exterior.
Dick Hardman:
Someone who has earned more of my respect than I ever thought possible. I've banned him no less than three times, and he got back onto the boards by impressing me with one of the only honest and candid posts I've seen from him. I know he's a burnout underachiever, and I worry that he's convinced himself that working construction and smoking dope is all he really needs. I think he's going to piss away a lot of potential, talent, and ability, all the while telling himself that his lifestyle isn't holding him back at all. Still, I think he means well, and I'm still hopeful.
Jubaji:
Someone who is probably really active in a lot of other internet places but comes here for comic relief. Jubaji earned my respect a long time ago because of his ability to not take himself or anyone else too seriously. If you're an asshole, he'll tell you. If he's an asshole and you tell him, he nods and says, "Yep. Sure am." There's just no bullshit about the man and I love watching people's incapacity to handle that.
Mr. Arieson:
I love his passion for argument, and I really hope he gets better at it someday. Arieson strikes me as an only slightly reformed hippie with his roots well dug into the martial arts culture of the 60s and 70s. Traditional arts probably called to him for reasons other than fighting, with fighting being a nice byproduct. Also strikes me as a patriot, which is very nearly the highest compliment I can give anyone.
Liberty:
Great guy with a lot of intelligence. I am reminded a lot of myself when I talk to Liberty, because I also had a lot of background with martial arts and even teaching at a young age and I remember listening to people tell me all the things they tell him. There's no way to convince someone that their own "wisdom" will change with years and experience, and I don't think Liberty would listen even if there was. He's someone who needs and wants to go through experiences for himself, and no amount of warning from others who've been there will dissuade him. Can't argue his way out of a wet paper bag, though.
G-Bells:
A pretty open-minded person who is willing to discuss opinions and different points of view, but who isn't quick to jump into real nasty conflicts or arguments. Tells me he'd probably be a good moderator, and that his friends probably ask him for advice a lot. He also probably gets the gossip on everyone in his peer group without ever having to talk about them to others.
and last but certainly not least:
Tant01:
Tant01 is someone I have grown to respect for far more than his opinions and views. I really, genuinely respect his character as a human being. He lived out a personal tragedy right here in front of our eyes, and he did it with poise and humility. In the midst of his own difficulties, I've watched him go above and beyond the call to show generosity to others - myself included - without ever asking or expecting anything in return. I'd be proud to call the man Brother. He also strikes me as someone I would not want on my bad side if he were armed with things sharp and pointy...
I lived on Lake Texoma, near Ft. Worth, and near Amarillo at alternate times in my life. Didn't really like any of them.
No wonder you don't like Texas, you lived in the crappiest and second crappiest places in the whole state!
No, seriously, Lake Texoma isn't horrible, but it's kind of plain. There are other lakes in the state that are much prettier. Up around Amarillo in the panhandle, though...well, as soon as I read that you didn't like Texas the first thing I thought, no joke, was "bet he used to live near Amarillo." We went to a kickboxing tournament in Plainview a little south of Amarillo a couple of months ago, and whoever named it "Plainview" was being very kind. No hills, no trees, nothing but brown dirt all to the way to the horizon and the occassional rusted silo or oil pump jack, and the whole town smeeled like drilling mud too boot. Nice folks there, but not much to look at. There are some really pretty places elsewhere in the state, though; the Piney Woods in East Texas, the Hill Country in Central Texas around Austin, and the Davis Mountains in far West Texas are all really nice.
