Excessive-this statement is completely false, I am not sure where the person that wrote this article gets there information but all business (large or small) must pay capital gains taxes, no exceptions.

If it weren't for wealthy individuals willing to take a gamble on new ventures, we wouldn't have entrepreneurs or small businesses--the backbone of America's economy.

There is a very simple fact that Obama's socialist rhetoric misses: You have to make and have money first before you can invest in start-ups to help entrepreneurs realize their dreams. By taxing wealthy individuals, Obama wants to take away their ability to recharge the economic engine that is clearly already faltering..

These statements are really for debate. Small business growth doesn't always occurs becuase of venture capital infact most are too small to be on the radar. Besides that point, its implied that if the "rich" are taxed that there will be no money left, they will have to move from a mansion into a 2BR apartment. I don't understand this person logic of ecconomics (and I understand ecconomics). That is not reality, regardless of the taxes people with large sums of money will still invest, particlulary the rich, becuase they have the money to make big profits and cushions where losses are less impacting. The average person making 50-70K not so much.

Honestly, whether you think you understand the economy or not, if you don't see a problem with someone not knowing how many houses they own and think we're not in a recession because your neighbors have jobs then you have already lost your credibility with me. Maybe you could look at unemployment figures, which are probably more statistically relevant.

In Arizona MMA HB 2834 was just signed into law by our governor, allowing MMA in Arizona under rules consistent with those used by the NJ State Athletic Control Board. The UFC was BANNED in AZ in large part due to political pressure by John McCain. It remained illegal until LAST MONTH.

McCain said on Larry King Live that MMA "appeals to the lowest common denominator in our society." I'm glad he considers me the lowest common denominator, but of course this political ploy had to do with it cutting into PPV boxing revenue and his wife's relationship with Budweiser which sponsored PPV boxing.

I thought it was interesting that the previous legislation required amateur mixed martial arts fighters in Arizona to use open hands instead of closed-fist strikes to the head. This is odd considering that one can see closed-fist strikes to the head in legally sanctioned boxing tournaments.

McCain didn't decide UFC had "grow up" until November 2007, within 3 months Budweiser signed a 3-year deal with the UFC.

It is all about money; the same old political bullshit. I guess McCain needed a couple more condos in Sedona.

yes I read it, he was against mma in 1995. said MMA had grown up in 2007, and now it is legal in 2008. I don't much worry about arizona as I don't live there. You can pretty much but anything in a cage and let it fight here in missouri.

He was against it in '95 and sent letters and basically lobbied governors to pass laws against it. What a maverick. And as someone who DOES live in Arizona I can say that he pretty much destroyed it in this state until a month ago. RITC is a bit of a joke. And as much as it would bother me if he was doing this because of his own penchant for boxing or personal bias, it damn well pisses me off that he did it to make even more money for his wife. As if he doesn't have enough.

treelizard- did hear a news segment on the tax rates and it stated that when Clinton had tax rates comparable to those proposed by Senator Obama were in place, the private sector added 2.6 million jobs a year. Under Bush, when tax rates comparable to those supported by Senator McCain were in place, the private sector added 400,000 jobs a year.

Presidents obviously do not control everything that happens in the economy. But it is fair and appropriate to judge how they play the economic hands they are dealt.

In the 90’s there was an economic boom. President Bill Clinton pushed a major tax increase through Congress in 1993, and the economy grew. But that is a false assumption. Economic growth was solid but not exactly spectacular in the years following the 1993 tax increase. The real economic boom occurred in the latter half of the 90’s, after the 1997 tax cut.

It is also interesting that Clinton lowered the capital gains tax lower than what Obama proposes to spur private-sector investment.

But in the 2001 economic slow down Alan Greenspan pointed the finger at the Clinton-Gore administration.
