Yep, been in fights that went to the ground. Yep, mounted people in fights before, also some "friendly" fights too.
Nope, I'm not gay. And um...yep not all fights go to the ground.

heh heh, this place hasn't changed much.

can you describe those fights - were they with friends ("friendly")?? or with some asshole having a bad day? How important to you feel your grappling is in the real world? Where did these fights take place??

thanks for responding - I've never been in a real fight, so I'm looking for insight from all you veterns out there

Well one of the fights happened at work (in the back room of a large store) where one of the employees constantly said he could and had beat up wrestlers in their shoot. When he asked me to shoot on him I took him down, and he asked again. Again I took him down, and he got angry and started trying to choke me and turn me over. I knocked him on his back with an ankle pick, and mounted him. I put my arm back to punch and he verbally quit. After that he was buddy buddy with me

The other time was in defense of a "hazing" when I used to work security. Two guards tried to take me down and handcuff me for some moronic "hazing out" initiation or some crap. I had to fight two on one, and kept it on my feet for a little while, but ended up tackling one of the guys to the ground, and held him in side control and ude garami (bent armlock) while the other stood above me and tried to get my arms behind my back. I slipped out between his legs (he was standing over me) and got back to my feet and threw some more punches, but they got tired and quit. (lucky for me..)

Another time was before I knew anything about grappling and was about 15 maybe. A wrestler took me down to the ground, and held me down in side control and was moving to a better position. I grabbed hold of him, and bit a piece of his side off. He jumped up and was bleeding through his shirt, and tried to come at me again, but people broke up the fight. (again lucky for me since he would have been more careful of the bite next time...and I didn't know how to stop the takedown.)

Another time I was like 14 and got into a fight with a real big guy who was not really stable at my high school. I knocked him down a few stairs, and turned to walk away. He tackled me on the ground when I wasn't looking and I tried to gouge his eyes. He pounded me pretty hard. I consider that one a lost fight haha)
But again no grappling knowledge there.

My fights after having a good base in wrestling and grappling got easier.

Uh..the friendly fights were just challenge matches with friends yeah. Last one was with a boxer/streetfighter friend and I mounted him while he had me in a headlock. Punched his ribs a bit till he let go, then submitted him with an armlock.
(I won't do that anymore because egos can flare easy with the wrong people... I go full contact now only with close training partners.)

Actually I've never lied ever about any of my fights, here or any other forum. Old posters here will remember one or two of the ones I posted up there a few days after they happened.

I haven't been in a fight in a long, long time. I went out the other day looking for trouble in a bad part of town. A group of punks tried to start some crap with me. Just about the time it got interesting, a teacher came over and told me to go home and that I should be ashamed of myself, a 30 year old man, for picking on 6th grade girls. Needless to say, I had to give all the Barbie (TM) stuff back to them. How am I supposed to prove my dim mak works if they won't let me test it???? Bastards!

I don't get in fights much at all, but I've had one fight that went to the ground and one semi-fight in which BJJ played a roll...

Some years ago at a party a guy just flat out tackled me. I landed on my back and if I'd known BJJ then, would have had him in my guard instantly. I think I could have giollitined (never could spell that word) right then and there - of course everybody always thinks they could have done blah, blah, blah, if they had it to do again but, in any case that fight went right to the ground.

The second time, I was sitting at a bar and when I looked up one of the drunks (back to me) was swinging at the manager - he wasn't hitting anything really, but I stepped up and applied the 'ole naked choke until he got the point, then I slackened up and we carried him out.

The thing about fights going to the ground is this: Maybe you don't want to fight there on purpose, but you might not have any choice (heck you didn't even want to fight on purpose, right?) so if your goal in martial arts is self defense, you should maybe take at least a crash course in it.

well mushin, I must say that I agree, as a serious & quality poster myself, this has become a tad overbearing, I have spent many decades cultivating Chi and thus, have become so dangerous that I daren't even take myself to the bathroom anymore (in case I poke me own eyes out), this is not good for the bladder as you can imagine but never the less, I perservere and put up with the many diabolical Trolls.

To Summarize, I hold my head up high & Noble & will never let em get me down.
                          Have a good day

In a fight I had, I was a freshman and weighed in around 125 He was a senior football player around 200 something. He came at me, and I was able to slip behind him. I put him in a vascular neck restraint (rear naked choke) and knocked him out. He was out for a good minute or so while the other people stood around him and kicked him lightly thinking he was just faking that he was out. But when somebody kicked him in the face and he didn't twitch they were sure I knocked him out.
