What do you call the long item of clothing you wear on your bottom half that has a separate part for each leg?

I see there's a bit of a debate here. Personally, I call them trousers, but that might be because I grew up hearing my parents use that term. It’s funny how different regions have their own words for the same thing. I remember when I traveled to the U.S. for the first time and asked for trousers, the store clerk looked at me like I had two heads until I corrected myself to "pants." Also, I’m a huge fan of custom hats. There's nothing better than having a hat that fits perfectly and looks just the way you want it. I recently got into custom beanie hats, and they've been a game-changer for me. They’re super comfy and great for adding a personal touch to my outfits. Anyone else here into custom gear?
