The Bayonet

link with several accounts of the bayonet in modern combat, and quite a few from less recent conflicts.

so how many of you feel the knife/bayonet are neglected in todays modern military? i think that whether you ever find yourself in the situation of needing the blade in combat is secondary to the mental edge and agressiveness that the bayonet and knife can teach the soldier.

I dont agree with using a Bayonet in combat anymore, but I think it would be a good idea for a soldier to have a combat knife or blade of some sort.

The reason is, the bayonet was used so that when you shot, and missed, or didnt kill the guy, you could stab the guy and kill him because it was faster than reloading.

With todays guns you could shoot another 50 rounds (exaggeration) into the guy in the time it would take to close the distance and stab him.

With that said, I believe a combat knife kept for any close quarters fighting could be useful.
