  • Martial arts security professionals..

    Mr. Brewer,

Firstly, congradulations on your promotion I imagine it must be a great honor being selected to be an instructor for th military.

Question: I just wanted to ask your opinion and others on the forum, what you believe is an effective delievery system (martial art/self defense system) for one who is either in the security industry (SWAT, Military, Close Protection) or hoping to break into it.

For myself, I am currently employed as a Loss Prevention Investigator in Canada and am planning to apply to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the coming year. Anyway, any insight into this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are starting from ground zero, i would highly recommend James Keatings Conceptual Gold vols 1 & 2. Vol 1 covers 5 movements that are the basic possibilities of movement for the upper body. He then uses a kali/jkd vehicle to explain mt/ hand, knife, stick, flexible weapons...the second tape looks more into silats toolbox useing 7 movements. They are probably 40 bucks each...but they are THE BEST info/training/teaching aid i have seen in over 40 years of combative training. Once you understand the logic chain he teaches you can expand it to every art you encounter. i have used these tools to "read" and teach various styles of Cma's as well as fma/silat concepts for years.
