  • On death and dying...

Last year three close friends of mine since childhood all died within a few months of one another. My friend Mike died from a self inflicted gunshot wound to his cranium, his brother Gary was killed in a work related accident and the father, Gary Sr. passed away from the dreaded disease, "cancer"...

I have mentioned my other friend Tyrone who was murdered outside a local market by a knife weilding attacker... He actually lived for some time with severe brain damage before he passed away.

And NOW my wife! Her battle with cancer has been the epic in my life, sadly it was a tragedy...

If you haven't read every post I've made in the last two months then you might have missed the last chapter of our lives together. I have not shared EVERYTHING but enough to let our friends know how it ended.

My wife went to the ER on 6-26 for severe pain in her lower back. She was admitted for pain control and spent the next fifteen days there. They took X-rays that didn't show anything abnormal but the MRI scans revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones.

She was getting ready to come home but developed a staph infection. Then her blood counts were so low that she needed a transfusion.

She eventually came home on July 11th. I spent the next four days tending to her every need around the clock. I had some help from Hospice with medical details and social services...We celebrated our tenth wedding annaversary on the 13th of July. Family and friends came to visit and provide some moral support.

Loretta Carlson died in my arms at 2:40 AM Saturday July 15th, 2006. She was 36 years old.

And so we entrust her to the Almighty. May she rest in peace...

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

    take care all...

I don't know anything I can do to help, and I have no words of wisdom...but if you ever want it, I will always be ready to lend an ear and my best wishes to you, as well as anything else I can possibly do to give a friend (I consider you, as well as many other members of this board friends) any support or help I can in their times of need.

I have no idea what to say to express my sypathies to you, just know that my heart goes out to you.

That's it? That's the best you got? You'll have to do better than that if you want me to archive your words in her memorial book!

I understand the compassion and the loss of higher brain function...

Take care my friend. Your humor and wit have already helped more than you may ever know...

Give my best to the Mrs.

Your post will be one (of many of yours) for my personal archives. It will be cherished in her memorial book as well.

        Thank you, my friend.

The friendships I have made here have been a great source of strength...
