We buried my dad today. He passed last Tuesday after a 52 day stay in the hospital. He contracted Covid the last week he was there, but it didn’t seem to really make him any sicker he definitely didn’t die from it. I’m really bewildered by the way the medical profession works. I swear it’s almost like they just kept him hanging on by a thread. Anyways, I’m just rambling on. I’m not sure how to process this all just yet. Maybe this will help?
He was my “Pops” he taught me most everything I know and appreciate about cars and racing. He raced A/F dragsters then Sprint cars later. He also managed the local Dragstrip for a time. He
was an elected officer in the Sprint car association that sanctioned the racing around the Midwest. He was awarded a presidential award for 40+ years of volunteer service by President George W. Bush. He helped start up and worked his way up through the ranks, finally retiring as Chief of one of the best trained and equipped Volunteer Rescue Squads in the USA. He did a lot of good for a lot of people. We didn’t see eye to eye many times, especially when I was younger, but I always respected him. He taught me to stand on my own and never coddled any of us (6 kids) he taught us the importance of earning your own way. They called him “The Bear” for a reason. He had a great run. He was 87. Rest easy POP.... Here are a few pics of his racing stuff.
