  • Speaker Setup for a Wedding Reception in a Barn

    Hello all,

My brother is looking for a speaker setup for a 2,000sqft barn. I want to try to eliminate loud spots so I was thinking 6-8 speakers along the long walls. I do not know what type of speaker I should be using for this or a receiver. It would be best if we had a receiver/amp that way where the speakers are we do not have to run an power outlet to them, only speaker wire.

You can see from the attached picture what the initial plan is for a layout (speakers in blue). They will be playing music for the dinner and greeting, there will be some announcements/speeches, and a few dances.

My questions are what type of speakers should I get for this that will work for this scenario? The music will be classic pop/rock.

Also what type of receiver would be recommended? Bluetooth, mic, and a laptop will be use.

Any recommendations on a mic too?

He is planning on using the speakers after the wedding for his barn for tunes. So we will leave them where we install them for that.

I would rent the equipment from a live music store before purchasing anything. They would also advise you an the best setup for your needs.

Something like the Yamaha NS-AW350 might work well – they’re weather-resistant and provide good coverage. As for the receiver, look for something like the Yamaha RX-V385; it has Bluetooth and enough power to drive multiple speakers without needing additional outlets. For the mic, the Shure SM58 is a great choice for speeches and announcements. I attended a wedding at royalcrystalevent.com in Las Vegas, and they had a similar setup for their outdoor ceremony and reception. The sound was fantastic, and they had a seamless experience with their equipment.
