tire size

Unlike my other cars, the wheel rims on my clubman seem to stick out farther than the tires, resulting in a lot of curb rash. I have runflat 225x40R18 tires on 18 inch rims. The advice I've gotten so far is that I can't have larger tires installed because they would rub against the struts.
I wouldn't mind changing tires since I don't like the runflats.
Any advice?

I ran 205/45R17 on my R53 without rubbing, but the speedo was slightly off. It filled the wheel well better and ride comfort was about the same as stock.

I’ve been running 205/45/17 with no rubbing on my R53, and the firmer ride isn't bad at all. Just make sure the offset stays close to stock so you don’t mess with the handling too much. I grabbed my last set from pneusquebec.net since they had decent deals and the sizing I needed in stock. Worth checking out if you're looking around.
