  • Scaffolding

I have a fairly normal 3 bed terrace 30s house with bar windows.

I want to paint my house.

    2 questions:

    1. some of the existing paint is flaking, take off with steel wool? If I don’t remove it all, surely there will be a line where the old paint ends. Do I just keep painting so it’s somewhat level?

    2. I will need a scaffolding at the back, there’s a mini balcony and just don’t see how I can use a ladder.

The front is straight forward but my neighbour used a tower and he is a competent DIY er.

The issue is where I lean the ladder at the bay windows.

Am I resigned to pay whatever 4 figure sum they want for scaffolding at front and back, or might it be actually cheaper to get someone to paint it who has equipment/experince?

My neighbour had a quote for ?800 to paint house, the scaffolding front and back would be about that.

Just looking for opinions. Might be a job it’s better to hand to a pro, thoughts?

Get a pro in if you are not comfortable with heights, the costs are going to be less than the quote you have had.

I was sorting out liability for damage and worked with scaffolding hire Wimbledon - they made it clear that once it was up, it was on me to make sure it stayed safe and untouched. Might be worth checking the small print again or even getting a quick confirmation in writing, just to be sure who’s responsible during and after the job.
