What is convenient to use to make home smell nice?

Don’t want to burn candles or boil lemons and cinnamon on a stove.

I’m interested in things that smell like a luxury hotel. Needs to be noticable, but not overpowering.


Essential oils through a diffuser, reeds? Something else?

I am in the camp of those who object to scented anything (spray, plug-in, especially essential oils). The best smell is the lack of a yucky smell.

I found that simmering a pot of water with citrus peels, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves works really well and is easy to throw together. Before switching to that, I spent some time weighing the pros and cons of candles and incense —candles are cozy but can get sooty, and incense smells strong fast but lingers too long for me.
