I honestly do not know. If I believed it was mandatory, I would wear it. However, I have heard both versions, and I grew up in a household that does not wear hijab. I was always taught to wear modest clothing and have a clean heart. I also do not believe I have enough knowledge on the topic to give advice. May Allah (swt) guide us all to the ultimate truth.
