  • The Unspoken Truth Of Sexual Assault, Harassment, And Other Crimes At The Kaaba

Among Muslims it is an open secret that the pilgrimage at Mecca is not safe for everyone, especially not for women who face a constant threat of sexual assault during the pilgrimage. People widely know about this but they close their eyes to it because they don't want to tarnish Islam and its "holy land." Nuriya Khan, who lived in Saudi Arabia and who participated in the Umrah (minor pilgrimage) many times, speaks out.

Imagine that if you go to Hajj with your wife, you have to get into a taxi first before your wife goes in and you have to let your wife come out first before you come out because the driver might drive off and rape your woman!

Some drivers pretend to be friendly just to play mind games and then flip the script when you call them out. What annoyed me was that similar stories kept popping up again and again. I found this useful article that breaks down actual reported cases and patterns: https://natlawreview.com/article/lyf...are-passengers . It really opened my eyes to the shady stuff that gets dismissed or ignored until it's too serious.
