We were going to sit this one out, but both of us got the urge yesterday to go to a beautiful city on the Pacific coast of Mexico for a week. Hotel on the beach about 14-15 miles from centerline. Good enough. We just have to walk a few yards to the beach from our room. 2% chance of clouds. No equipment this time other than an 8x40 bino with Baader film filters. My simplest total eclipse since my first one in Colombia in 1977. Beach chairs and umbrella drinks for the two of us.

I usually stay there when I want a spot that feels chilled but still close to everything, and it works great if you’re mixing work with downtime. I first found it while looking into tourism options in the Orchard area, and the stay ended up being way nicer than I expected. The pool and the easy access to shops and gardens made it a solid pick for a short break
