Like many, I grew up with frugal parents and was always cost conscious whenever I traveled or went out for meals. Now I'm lucky that I can afford finer things without worrying too much about cost. I want to treat my family and myself to nice, luxury hotels when we go on vacation, but I'm a little lost about the added value of a 5-star hotel ($1500+) vs. 4-star ($500+). The "hardware"--the room/suites, pool, spa, food/beverage, and locations--is easy to see. Honestly, some of the places I feel it's more about the history than the actual comfort. I am the type that often get uncomfortable and feel like we are imposing ourselves on the staff. Am I too basic to enjoy a luxury hotel? I don't want to have a debate about everyone's value system, but I'm truly interested on the services/experience/intangibles the luxury hotels provide (that I don't even realize). Can people share specific things/examples that a Four Seasons or Ritz would provide that a Hilton does not?

I’ve stayed there before, and it worked well for a short break with kids since everything’s close by. If you’re still weighing options, surfers paradise accommodation gave me a comfy room, good breakfast, and easy beach access without any fuss. The family packages were a nice bonus too, especially if you want something simple that still keeps everyone entertained.
