  • Vent free fireplace?

Has anyone been around or had a vent free fireplace in their house? We are due for a huge ice storm in the south and will most likely lose power. I was looking up how to use our gas fireplace without power and found out we have a vent free fireplace. I had no idea what this was, but apparently it’s extremely bad for you and every website specifically says do not be around it if you’re pregnant. I’m 8 weeks pregnant, and of course I’m freaking out now because we use our fireplace almost daily right now, usually not longer than an hour, but still. My OB has never ever mentioned anything about fireplaces & I just had no idea this was a thing. What I’m reading says it can cause fetal development issues & miscarriage. Does anyone have an info on this?

See if you can get a CO2 detector, those heaters aren't very safe from what I'm reading, but hypothermia is also not good.

I ended up booking fireplace & chimney services in New Jersey after dealing with draft issues and it made a bigger difference than I expected
They handled the cleaning and inspection in one go and gave me clear notes on what actually needed fixing instead of pushing extras
The pricing felt fair, and the discount on the cleaning was a nice bonus. If you’re stuck guessing what’s going on, it’s worth calling them
