Sourcing EV parts outside of the dealer — what’s been your experience?

Hey everyone — I’m curious to hear from other EV owners here.

For those who have had to source parts outside of a dealership, what’s been the most frustrating part of the process so far?

Is it:
– Limited availability?
– Unclear compatibility between models/years?
– VIN-specific differences?
– Or being forced back to the dealer for simple components?

I’m especially interested in how people verify fitment before ordering, since EV platforms seem to share parts but still vary a lot by VIN.

Would appreciate any insight or experiences you’re willing to share.

Biggest headache has been VIN level differences that are not obvious until the part shows up. Two cars that look identical on paper can have different connectors, brackets, or software revisions. Availability is improving, but the catalog data is still messy compared to ICE cars where aftermarket has had decades to standardize things.
