When the garage was built (1960's or 1970's), they left the rafters exposed and never installed fascia board. I want to install fascia board now for atheistic reasons and so I can cleanly mount lights, IoT devices and various other projects. There are 18 rafters, 21' 7" in length from the front to back rafter. The rafters are 2" x 6", 16 on center and most are about 23 3/4" in length, but one is 23" and another 25". Based on this info and the pictures (below), do I simply...:
Cut that long rafter down to 23 3/4"
Fasten a 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of wood to the short 23" rafter (so it will make contact with the fascia board later)
Purchase two 12 foot 2 x 10 fascia boards
Measure and cut each so they butt up to each other on one of the middle rafters and are flush with the first and last rafter
Nail the fascia boards to the rafters
Is that it?
P.S. - Yes, there's some rot and minor damage in this area of the structure, but I'll have that taken care of when I hire someone to replace the roof in a couple years - I just want to get the fascia up for now.
