  • wrist a little sore

I just bought a heavy bag and have been using it pretty hard for about 2 weeks. Well my right hand has always been my dominate hand and I have used it quite a lot just building up caluse on the knuckles and so on. The entire knuckle structure of my right hand is far different from when I started.

Anyway I guess punching things and gradually getting harder made my wrist stronger or more used to punching. But the problem is my left wrist I cannot seem to punch without feeling like a pulled a muscle in it. I have been doing more and more wrist curls to strengthen it but I havent seen any difference?

Its gotten to the point where I can barely hit the bag at all with it because it huts. Any ideas about getting stronger with the left wrist?

    1. STOP! You have an overuse injury and could make it into a chronic problem if you carry on.

    2. Rest. You need to rest until it is better. Try other kinds of fitness training or something so that you can still raise your game whilst out of punching.

    3. Consider other methods of striking. But, in the final analysis, if you want to punch you will. But there are much better ways.

    4. If you're going to punch, get hand wraps, good bag gloves and work up gradually.

    5. Hit with hate. Thats not really relevant to this post, I just like saying it.

Thank you for the advice. I will purchase hand wraps. Possibly get some bag gloves as well.

I dont really need them for my right hand but I think its a good idea to get them just to be safe on the left.

            Wraps + bag gloves

Yeah most definiteley get hand wraps and bag gloves after you have had a rest. I can't beleive you were training on the heavy bag bare-knuckle with no boxing experience.

I messed up my right wrist a few months ago from hitting a heavy bag. The pain wasn't excruciating, but it was definitely noticable. There was also a slight lump on my wrist. All these signs told me to take it easy for a while.

Luckily (*touchwood*), the injury seems to be getting better, but its been a few months since I've tried to do any bicep curls etc. I couldn't put any weight or pressure on my wrist of the injury.

I just hit a heavy bag with my Harbinger bag gloves on, which are meant to offer "wrist protection." I think you are better off wrapping them instead!

I can hit a bag now, but take it easy with my hooks!

Just bought hand wraps and am having a bit of trouble with them. Do they have to go in between the fingers? Cause every way that I have read how to do them says you should but when I follow their directions the wrap is never long enough.

Please help. And if there is anyone that has an easy hand wrap method please share.

yes the best way is to go in between your fingers a different one every time around but you can just wrap it around all your knuckles at once if you perfer. but the only way you are going to get over your injury is to take a break from the bag and do more strength trainging on both sides of your wrist. at least thats what worked for me.
