i've started working out again and running regularly, finally. my question is, is running 3 times a week good enough to drop my body fat percentage? I know diet is also a part of this, which i'm working on...I just ask because a long time ago i had about 8% body fat but i was running 5-6 days a week, but now i'm trying to gain more muscle but also drop my body fat %...i'd say right now i'm probably closer to 20% BF, so basically, will running 3 days a week for 20-30 mins help me out?

well i would say that weight training in itself is great at burning fat because the more muscle you have the more fat you burn but you can never downplay the importance of running. If by running you mean jogging that is fine but jogging is not much different than slo go cardio and you will burn fat but only during the period of time you are jogging. Adding a sprinting element or some other high intensity workout will burn fat much more efficiently even well beyond the workout.

You should do fine. Up your protien (chicken breasts/ tuna/ eggs/ not bacon lol) to preserve muscle and drop carbs 6 days a week and on the 7 carb load (your muscle will be hungry for carbs so most will store as glycogen in the muscle rather than fat- cheat day). This will keep glycogen stores up in your muscle and allow you to preserve as much of it as possible while cutting and that keeps your metabolism up and keeps the weight falling off. Also be sure to adjust your caloric needs every few weeks as your weight drops. I would stay about 250-450 under maintanance. Good luck.
