  • can u call this HIIT?

    hi guys

if you hit the treadmill and warm up for 5 mins and then run fast for 2 mins and the walk briskly for 3 mins and then run fast for 2 mins & so on for 30mins.....is this considered high intensity training?

    thanks

no i don't believe that qualifies. First of all i dont' think HIIT should last that long. The best workout i know is basic 4 minute warmup with a real slow jog and then start at your regular pace for 20 secs and switch into a full on sprint for 20sec and then back into a jog for another 20 and sprint for 20. do this for 3 minutes (don't forget a 4 minute cool down) if you can but really if its your first time then go 2 minutes to get a feel for it and work your way up. Every couple of weeks you should add another interval of 20 sec jog and 20 sec sprint.

      thanks for the reply

i am now training in this spec...

5 min warm up followed by 30 sec jog then 30 sec sprint for 4 mins

i then walk for 5 mins and then repeat

i do the sprint/jog 4 times in total workout session

i am finding this hard but also comfortable!

how good is this for weight loss and is the 5min walk interval to long for burning weight?

      thanks

wow 4 sets seems like a lot. you must be a cardio freak. no insult intended. lol I wouldn't worry about the walking not burning enough fat because the jog/sprint intervals will do most of the burning anyways. Sprinting alone will burn fat well past the workout and throughout the day if the intensity is high enough and HIIT is perfect since it allows not only gives the cardiovascular gains of running but the strength training as well and nothing burns fat better than those two combined. It would seem though that 4 minutes of jog/sprint intervals might not be enough since you are easily able to do 4 so then i would increase that to perhaps 5 minutes or so. One set of HIIT is good enough for most people but I do understand that some people don't like to do it all in one pop so they will add sets perhaps to get more distance into their workout. But it sounds like you are doing well.
