Hello everyone, im new to the forum and look forward to learning from you all. Im starting to think about getting back in shape and would like any imput you may have concerning a cardio workout and body weight resistance program. Im wanting to write something out that is simple and easy to follow. Im not sure about the cardio, i hear different things about how long, what type, duration intensity etc, there is just so much information. Also, what would a good bodyweight exercize routine look like, and is that even what i should be doing compared with free weights and machines? Thank you for any knowledge that you can share.

Im fairly strong but i get winded easy. Im looking to drop some weight, build up my wind, and maintain some kind of muscularity. I just wasnt sure about what the best cardio routine would be to start out and if i should also be using bodyweight exercizes over free weights and machines. I know alot of fighters are using bodyweight exercizes but i dont have much experience with that other than yoga.

Try hill sprints for running. Find a good steep hill, run up it as hard as you can for 50-100m to start, then walk down. Do that as many times as you can several times a week, maybe 3-4x. For bodyweight exercises, try the Royal Court, Matt Furey's little baby that works pretty well. All it consists of are Hindu Squats, Hindu Pushups, and Back Bridges. Do as many as you can of each (or as long as you can for the bridge), and do them everyday. Should see a good change in a month or so

You're gonna hate me for saying this, but you're gonna have to do runs. Long-distance, good-pace runs. Start off first just finishing a mile. Then work up to finishing 2 miles by adding a quarter mile each additional run. Once you can hit 3 miles, cut about 30 seconds from your 1 mile time and go for two miles. Keep reducing the time.
Hope this helps. Yes, runs are painfull to the lungs, just take it easy and work at your own pace.
