Hey, this is my first thread and i was just wondering what is the best way to balence in a handstand. I just recently started capoeira and find it hard to stay in the handstand position. I always go to far foward or back. Thanks.

You can start by using a wall to hold you up. Hold yourself up and then when you start to fall, fall towards the wall. You could also have someone hold you straight to help you out. Keep doing that until your stabilizer muscles adjust. You could also try walking on your hands, that's a little easier than just handstanding there. Eventually you'll get it.

the main thing is keeping your body very tight, sure, you can do it relaxed , butjust starting out, it's best to try to stay as tight as possible. You need to keep your toes on the "stomach side" , not overly exagerating that statement, but what it means is, don't let your back arch. You want to stay in a slight "hollow" position. If you lay on the ground on your back, pick your feet up slightly and curl your shoulders off the ground slightly with your arms by your ears. You'll feel your abs tighten, that's the "hollow" position, and a great handstand position. When in your handstand, you want to push your body as high as possible, pushing your shoulders as long as possible...if you have any questions, or want some pictures of what I am describing, let me know. I am a gymnastics coach (5yrs coaching), and a gymnast for 8 yrs...you can email me at marine51@hotmail.com. Hope this helps....

oh, the most important thing for a handstand....practice practice practice...it's a lot of muscle memory as well, which is why the positions help so much.

Just keep trying it, with walls, without walls, etc......PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE is the only way to get a really good handstand.
HEY, that would be a good endurance exercise. Run 3 miles on your hands

Yeah, when I was 15 I got hyper from watching a Jackie Chan movie, was eating dinner in my bedroom, set my plate down, leapt up, and like the expert I believed I was, twirled around and threw, sent my dinner flying across the room.....
