    yes balance is the key

Most punching strengtn comes from the tricepts so doing push ups with the elbows against the ribs or reverse curls on a cable machine are the best exercises for increasing "punching strength". also while Im giving up info I should say that the best combination is to work with body weight lots of reps then wait 2-3 days and work the same muscles with heavy free weights and few reps then 2-3 days later work with body weight again continue to alternate. This builds both slow twitch and fast twitch fibers builds strength and stability as well as reflexes and speed. you wont gain a lot of mass but you will turn to pure steel. It may sound strange but it works just try it for a few weeks and see.

Most of your punching power comes from leg pushoff and explosive rotation from your trunk. The snap of the punch comes from the tricep; the speed from relaxation and good technique. The punch itself is much, much more than the tricep and you generally learn that after a week with one coach.

If you want to increase punching power, you should do excercises that work your core muscles, legs and shoulders. Then you should hit the heavy bag again and again and again.

I should have been more specific!

I was responding to the bench press comments.I was talking about which muscles"in the arm" that are used for punching . I guess I should have been more specific and Yes you are right about punching with the whole body. but I was refering more to "quick jab" snapping style punching. I am sure you are familar with those. As for my training I have had plenty as for experience I have had plenty of that too.
