well, if you had two fighters the same height and body frame, both muscular, one of em is lean and the other is bulky who is gonna be inherently faster?
i didn't say not to weight train, just not to go nutts if you wanna keep your speed.
if i train with weights i go light weight hi reps.
just my opinion...

Speed comes from the fast twitch muscles, so the more the better.Originally posted by theprophetpush ups
push ups and umm
push ups
remember if you build too much muscle you will lose speed. don't overtrain with weights.
Also push ups work the arms, while leg and hips accelerate the punch.

the truth is, unless u take steroids u wont get that big. u can add some size for sure, but that bulky rediculous mass can only be attained with roids. if u are a regular guy, or skinny, u can lift and workout hard consistently for years and u still wont be that big if u are natural. u will for sure get in much better shape, fill out, and look more muscular and athletic, but aint gonna be no arnold. ive been lifting hard consistenlty for a few years now, in addition to training in muay thai and bjj, and i dont even look big. i put on 20 lbs of muscle that i had to fight tooth and nail for, and i still dont look big. however i look much healthier, my bodies filled out more and looks more athletic, but im not all big and bulky and lifting weights has only made me faster and stronger. its a huge myth that lifting weights will make u slow. if anything it will make u faster and better since u have stronger muscles that can perform better than before. this seems to be a very common myth in martial arts. also, if u do martial arts in addition to lifting, all the cardio u do in ma will burn alot of ur calories so u wont get that big anyway. if ur a big bulky guy already and have lots of mass/fat then yeah lifting heavy weights is a no no. it will make u bulky and gross looking. bigger people should focus their workouts more on cardio and slimming down and getting toned rather than pumping iron.Originally posted by theprophetwell, if you had two fighters the same height and body frame, both muscular, one of em is lean and the other is bulky who is gonna be inherently faster?
