  • Quality Jump Ropes

Can anyone recommend a quality brand of jump rope? Last night I broke my third jump rope in less than a year. Sure, I can afford the $2 or $3 for a new one every few months but it's incredibly annoying when it snaps and interupts my work out. I'd appreciate any help.

i'd just get a rope jump rope at kmart or wallmart.

I spent 12 bucks on a lether jump rope with the ball bears in the handles and those are pretty good, unless you drop it and the handle breaks.

Personally, I like everlast speed rope. Its a wirey material but it moves nice. Not too expensive either.

Well, I got the type that I was using at Target, but I don't think those are really meant for serious use. This time I went to a sporting goods store and I invested a little more in a speed rope from getfit. Hopefully I'll have better luck this time. Thanks for the responses guys.

Personally, I like the cheapie speed ropes that have plastic handles + vinyl (or maybe plastic) rope.

They're the best and CHEAP. The leather ones are good too with teh ball bearings... but as someone said above ... they mess up easily - after dropping mine a few times, the ball bearings got all messed up.

For what it's worth, the speed rope I got from Getfit finally bit the dust the other day. From the date of this thread it lasted a little more than a year, and it had a much nicer weight/feel to it than the cheapos. I was satisfied enough that I replaced it with the same make and model without looking at anything else.

I second everlast. It's a trusted brand for combat sports. Be sure to get one with ball bearings in the handle.

The Everlast 25lb hooking bags suck. The straps always break. I'm on my third one in several years. I wish everlast would improve on that!!!

Don't get a rope made of any kind of thread. Get a plastic one.

And if you wanna change things up, get a 6-7' piece of surgical tubing, pack some dense, rocky sand in it and seal the ends off with bicycle handles.

If it weighs about 9-10 lbs, you're good to go

Yeash, why not just go to homedepot and cut yourself a length of chain..

I like my everlast, its a little dirty, and a little frayed in the middle. but everything still works like the day I bought it.. Though I haven't tried anything else since elementary school.

You're right that's why I went with a century one with normal straps, they no longer make 25# ones, but tko does and the 25# typhoon waterbag by proforce looks like it's straps are ok companies always try to cut corners and alot of companies don't offer light bags any more powair doesen't offer it's jab bag anymore( the same one mike tyson use to perfect his head punching and slipping style back in the day) thanks for bringing up this issue btw why don't you njust use one of the heavier hook bags that are thinner from ringside, title ect. is there any reason for the smaller size for hooks, I know a thinner bag is better for hook accuracy but what benifit is a small 25# one since I have one I'll implement what you say as per how to work hooks on it
